We are very close!  I was too optimistic when I thought the documentary would be done by April.  I didn't fully appreciate the technical and legal issues that needed resolution and the time it would take to accomplish them.  Amado told me yesterday that we can start taking orders for the DVD at the upcoming NISOD conference in Austin, Texas.  We will be there starting Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. 

If this OK holds and we, indeed, start taking orders, I will also post the same opportunity on the website.  I will keep all of you posted.  I can tell you that with all items that come from the foundation, we will be offering it as a gift that comes with a minimum donation of $25 (includes shipping).  I haven't yet seen the final product but I have been told by those who have that it is very good. 

 I was fortunate to see it when 43 of the 60 minutes were finished and before Lou Diamond Phillips recorded the narrative.  I am sure the additional scenes and Lou's narrative presentation make the documentary even better.  I can guarantee each of you that if you collect Amado's work or just enjoy it from a distance, you will want this documentary.  You will learn a lot about his life journey from this very well done film.

Our biggest annual fund-raiser is a cooperative event that we do with the St. Pius X High School foundation.  In May, we will present the 12th annual Legacy Art Albuquerque event.  If you would like to know more about it, please visit www.legacyartabq.org.   I hope, over the next two months, to invite you to vist the website and view the great art that is available at this event.  Some of it is incredible.  I am trying to fiqure out if we could actually find a way for all of you who can't be here  to bid on the items.  That is a work in progress, however.

because this piece should be on someone's wall, we would rather trade it for a tax deductible donation to the foundation.  This is an original piece done in 1981 (30 years old) of which Amado did five.  It is done with prisma colored pencils and the image rests in the middle of a large piece of handmade paper.  It is unframed and still in the shrinkwrapped state it was 30 years ago.  If you have an interest in this piece, please contact mike_dvlt@yahoo.com. 

This is the very first view of the DVD cover for the soon to be released "Pena:  From Culture to Canvas" documentary.  Initially, these will only be available from the Art Has Heart Foundation.  Subsequently, it will be available from additional sources.  You can't order just yet but, hopefully, within 30 - 45 days you will be able to do so.  This a very good film that defines Amado's career more broadly than most are aware and answers a number of the questions posed by fans, collectors, academics, friends, and others.  We hope to have a 90 second video teaser posted soon.   The right panel is the front of the DVD box and the left panel is the back.

The Art Has Heart Foundation recently received two wonderful Lithographs that were done by the legendary Frank Howell.  Frank Howell is one of the five artists that are credited with driving the contemporary southwest art movement (Pena, Gorman, Vigil, and Nieto).  The foundation has no reason to hold art and it is our goal to convert these donated pieces into opportunities.  I am sure there are some of you that collect southwest art more broadly that just Amado M.
