Akina Adderley  | Vocalist, Songwriter, Conductor, Educator

Nicknamed “the little woman with the big voice,” Akina Adderley is a vocalist, songwriter, bandleader, conductor, and educator based in Austin, Texas. Her music crosses genre boundaries effortlessly, always moving you with her infectious grooves, incisive lyrics, and what the Austin American Statesman calls her “rich, emotive pipes.”

Akina has performed all over Austin at venues as massive as ACL Live and Stubb’s and as intimate as Cactus Cafe, and has been equally comfortable sharing a set at a little landmark club or busting out a ferociously vibrant show in front of a crowd of thousands. Akina has made Austin her musical home, but she has taken her music all over the country and has shared bills with Booker T., Kyle Turner, Budos Band, Bob Schneider, Gary Clark, Jr., Alejandro Escovedo, Pinetop Perkins, Carolyn Wonderland, and Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and she has sung backing vocals on the albums of Charlie Mars and Gregg Rolie (of Santana and Journey). As a 2017 recipient of the prestigious Black Fret grant, representing Austin music in Adelaide, Australia with The House of Songs in 2017, and having been honored in 2012 by the mayoral proclamation of Akina Adderley Day in Austin, Akina has enjoyed great local success and support.

Painting with Peña

Renowned Southwest artist Amado Peña is the president and co-founder of the Art Has Heart Foundation, which partners with organizations to improve educational opportunities.

This September, Peña and ACC hosted a group of celebrities at ACC Highland for an evening of Painting with Peña. Each celebrity received a custom ceramic boot and one-on-one guidance from Peña to create their own unique design. Each boot will be sold at auction during the Boots & Bats Gala on November 10, 2018.
